Emmauskirche was founded in 1885 and is named after the biblical story of the two disciples walking to Emmaus, which is a town near Jerusalem. In 1919, the church underwent a renovation to its current form, which includes an eclectic mixture of architectural elements, including Art Nouveau, Expressionist, and Romanesque elements. The church is also notable for its finely executed wooden pulpit carved by Erich Ohlde. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Germany.
