The Abune Gebremenfeskudus Orthodox Church in Eritrea, commonly called the Eritrean Orthodox Church, is an Oriental Orthodox Christian rite that follows one of the oldest branches of Christianity and belongs to the Ancient Church of the East. It is Eritrea's largest and oldest denomination and is one of two predominant branches of Oriental Orthodoxy in that country.

The roots of the Eritrean Orthodox Church trace back to the fourth century when it was part of the Alexandrian Church of Egypt. The faith was nurtured and guided by the great fourth century father of the church, Saint Anthony the Great. Another important figure in its history is the fifth century hermit, Saint Mary of Diospolis. By the middle of the fifth century, the Church had become firmly established in the region and was organized into the four ancient dioceses of Axum, Bega, Anseba and Hamasien. In the late nineteenth century one of the four Orthodox dioceses in Eritrea, Amsala, fell under the influence of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt. This was followed by an influx of missionaries from Egypt, leading to a strengthened, monolithic organization of the church. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Eritrea.
