History:
Templo de San Francisco Javier was built in 1695 by the California State Missionary, Father Agustín León. The project was inspired by baroque architecture and it is known for its elaborate and ornate decorations. It is said that the church’s walls were built with clay and wood, and that the roof is made from metal and wood. The church was completed in 1699 and was officially consecrated in 1702. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Mexico.
