The Temple of Amun at Karnak is located on the west bank of the Nile in Luxor, Egypt. It is one of the most famous temples in the world and was the principal cult center for the god Amun. Worship in this temple was predominantly based on the system of the five daily prayers. These prayers took place at various times of the day and they included prayers for protection, offerings of devotion and thanksgiving, and hymns of praise. The prayers were typically conducted by the priests of Amun, who wore the traditional white robe and headdress focused towards the god’s statue. During the service, music such as drums, sistra and harps were played in accompaniment to the singers. These worshipers prayed to the god for health, protection, fertility and strength. Offerings were made throughout the services, including grain, wine, incense and other gifts. After the worshiping ended, the temple was opened up so that the public could enter and express their gratitude and loyalty to the god.
