The present church dates from the 14th century, though there is evidence for earlier buildings on the site. The church is dedicated to St Werburgh, a 7th century nun and abbess of the monastery of Ely. It stands in the centre of Spondon and is a focal point of the village community. The church has a number of features of interest including a 15th century font and 16th century stained glass windows.
