St. Thomas Church is an Episcopal Church in the Diocese of West Virginia located in Charleston, West Virginia. It was founded in 1880 as a mission for the African American community and is the oldest parochial church in the city still in operation today. St. Thomas Church was founded in 1880, two years after the Civil War. African American members of the Episcopal Church who had been attending Grace Church in Charleston wanted to form their own mission, and were successful in doing so. The missionaries sent from Grace Church were the Rev. George V. Cram, who was the first rector and served for two years, and the Rev. W. T. Moore, who served until 1882.
