It was built in the late 18th century and remains in use by its original congregation today. The church is the oldest Roman Catholic church in Derby. History:

In 1789, the then Bishop of Birmingham, Henry Benedict Stuart, commissioned Father Joseph Wilkins to build a Roman Catholic church in Derby. Built with its own cemetery, the corner stone of St. Anne's Church was blessed in a ceremony on 15 October 1792 by Bishop John Milner. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.
