It is attached to a convent, the Collegio di Propaganda Fide and the German college, founded in 1681. The church is popularly known as the "Soul Church" due to its name which translates as "Our Lady of the Soul". It is one of the best churches in Rome which you must visit.

The church was founded in 1350 by the Orsini and Checchersi families, and entrusted to the Augustinians. Later it became the German national church and the cardinals of the church are Germans. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Rome.
