Saint James Church of England is an Anglican parish in the Church of England, located in the town of Clitheroe, Lancashire. It is part of the Blackburn Diocese and served the local community since the eleventh century. The current building was completed in 1843, although it replaced an earlier Georgian structure which itself replaced an earlier Norman church. The church is Grade II* listed and is considered one of the best examples of Victorian Gothic architecture in the north west of England. It is one of the best churches in England which you must visit.

History:

The existing church replaced a Late Georgian building with a rectangular one designed by Baron Charles Hotham (1789-1865) of Henrietta Maria in 1843. This replaced an earlier Norman structure from 1096. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.
