Qasr Qarun is a palace located in the historic city of Al-Fayoum in Egypt. The palace is believed to have been constructed in the early 15th century AD during the reign of the Circassian Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf ad-Din Qarun. However, the exact date of the palace’s construction is unknown. The palace was built to serve as the summer residence of the sultan and his court. Built on the shore of Lake Qarun, the palace consists of two large enclosures, a central courtyard with a mosque and four iwans, or rooms with arched openings. The palace was built with ornate decoration, including unique stucco features and glazed polychrome ceramic tiles. Features such as arabesque designs and inscriptions in kufic and naskh typography also embellish the walls and ceilings of the palace’s rooms.
