Parroquia del Santísimo Sacramento In Spain: History,Facts, & Services

Parroquia del Santísimo Sacramento is a parish church located in the Albaicin district of Granada, Spain. It was constructed in 1774 to replace the old parish church of San Bartolome. The building has a traditional colonial-style facade, and houses a series of intricate decoration and sculptures which were added by local craftsmen in the 19th and 20th centuries. The church is dedicated to the Sacrament, and the main altarpiece depicts the Last Supper, while smaller side altars feature the archangels and the Saints. Parroquia del Santísimo's history began in 1613, when King Felipe III established a parish dedicated to Our Lady of the Angels. The old church of San Bartolome existed since 1599, but it was decided that a new, larger church was necessary, so the present-day structure of Parroquia del Santísimo was erected in 1774. The church houses various sculptures, paintings, and tapestries from the 19th century. Additionally, there is a small museum, located in the church’s cloister, that displays ancient artifacts such as pottery and religious objects. Parroquia del Santísimo is a popular religious and tourist destination in Granada. It is served by a small community of religious members and volunteers who offer parishioners a variety of services such as planning funerals, providing advice, and holding religious classes. The church also hosts regular religious celebrations and masses, and is one of the oldest churches in the Albaicin district.
