History:

NaturBornholm is a natural site located in Aakirkeby, on the island of Bornholm, in Denmark. The area has been inhabited for thousands of years, and traces of humans have been found from the Stone Age. In the 11th century, the area was settled by a group of Danish farmers who built a church in Aakirkeby which became the center of the village. The first permanent buildings in the area were built shortly thereafter. During the Middle Ages, Aakirkeby prospered, and the surrounding area was used for agriculture and crafts. In the 16th century, the Reformation transformed Aakirkeby into a strongly Protestant area. The population grew and the surrounding area was used as pasture and for forestry. In the 18th century, the first inn opened in Aakirkeby, and in the 19th century, the town experienced an industrial boom, with several smithies, mills and factories. In the 20th century, Aakirkeby grew rapidly due to a growing tourist industry. With the increased demand for recreational activities, the area around Aakirkeby was turned into NaturBornholm in 1975, a site where visitors can enjoy nature and outdoor activities in an unspoiled, rural setting. Today, NaturBornholm is a popular destination for hikers, cyclists, campers and nature-lovers. You must visit one of these historical places in Denmark on your Denmark tour
