Worship Method:

Gufo Temple is located in China’s Shanxi Province. It is an ancient temple with a history of more than a thousand years. The temple follows traditional worship methods, with two main deities – Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, and her counterpart Gufo. The principal ritual of worship takes place on the 21st day of the fifth month in the lunar calendar. During the ceremony, pilgrims pray to the deities for health, prosperity, and luck. The first part of the ritual consists of reading sacred scriptures and burning incense. Pilgrims then offer up an array of lucky items -- such as apples, pomegranates, and coins -- to the deities as offerings. After this, they kneel and recite sutras, followed by a reading of the Temple’s creed and a chant of blessings. The ceremony ends with making a wish for the future. At Gufo Temple, visitors can also benefit from health-related rituals. Priests here offer special treatments, such as head massages and acupuncture, to cure ailments and restore balance and harmony. During the summer months, the monks also organize health camps and outdoor activities. This most visited temple in China
