The Gagarin Monument in Moscow was unveiled on April 12, 1961 to commemorate Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space. The monument was designed by sculptor Anatoli Sakharov and constructed by architect Pavel Miturich. The sculptural composition depicts the heroic feat of Yuri Gagarin and features several elements – two rocket ships, a shining star, a female figure with a glowing rocket, and a Levitation Machine Below. The Monument was located at the intersection of the Garden Ring and the Third Transport Ring in the center of Moscow. It has become a symbol of national unity and serves as a reminder of Gagarin's courage and heroism. The monument was officially unveiled on April 12, 1975, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the first manned spaceflight. In its honor, the nearby metro station was renamed to Gagarin Square.
