The monument was designed by sculptor Anatoli Sakharov and constructed by architect Pavel Miturich. The sculptural composition depicts the heroic feat of Yuri Gagarin and features several elements – two rocket ships, a shining star, a female figure with a glowing rocket, and a Levitation Machine Below. The Monument was located at the intersection of the Garden Ring and the Third Transport Ring in the center of Moscow.
