First Peter Baptist Church was founded to provide a celebration of worship services, spiritual and social welfare of African Americans. The congregation of First Peter Baptist was formed 3 years after the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. At that time, Nashville was under Union occupation and slavery had been abolished. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Denmark.
