Dolmabahçe Mosque is the first and largest mosque in Istanbul. It was built in 1831 by the then Sultan, Abdulmecit I. The Sultan named the mosque after the Ottoman royal palace of Dolmabahçe, which was located next to the mosque. Dolmabahçe Mosque underwent renovation and expansion in the early 20th century. The combined mosque-palace complex, which had been abandoned since the Ottoman Empire’s fall in 1923, has been restored and turned into a museum. Today, Dolmabahçe Mosque is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Istanbul. The mosque is visited by thousands of people a day and it is one of the few mosques that allow non-Muslims to enter. It is one of the most famous mosque in Turkey which you must visit.
