Basilica of Saint Josaphat is a Roman Catholic basilica located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Constructed in 1901, the basilica is a magnificent example of Neo-Byzantine architecture. The basilica takes its name from Saint Josaphat, a Polish martyr and saint from the 17th century. The basilica honors not only the life of the saint, but also the Polish immigrants who settled in the area. It is one of the best churches in USA which you must visit.

History:

The Basilica of Saint Josaphat was built on the site of the first Milwaukee church, St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception. It was designed to honor the Polish immigrants who had made their homes in the Milwaukee area. The building features Neo-Byzantine style architecture, inspired by St. Mary’s in Constantinople. The basilica was completed in 1901 and dedicated on August 18, 1902. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in USA.

The basilica is built from yellow brick and was designed by the architectural firm of Eggert and Eggert. The building is one of the tallest in Milwaukee, measuring 125 feet, and is the second largest church building in the United States.
