It is one of the oldest churches in the city, believed to have been founded by Pope Sylvester I in 324 AD. It was originally a Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Juno Moneta, but it was later converted into a Christian church in the 8th century and served as a private oratory for the Frangipane family. The current structure is a late Renaissance (Baroque) building, built between 1586 and 1626. It is one of the best churches in Rome which you must visit.
