The Anglican Church of Mexico is the province of the Anglican Communion in Mexico. The province is the official representative body of the Anglican tradition in Mexico and was known as the Protestant Episcopal Church of Mexico until 1972 when it changed its name to reflect the expansion of the Anglican Communion. The Anglican Church of Mexico is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, a family of autonomous churches united by common faith and obedience to Jesus Christ. The church is also part of the Latin American Anglican Province of Central America and Mexico. The Anglican Church of Mexico was formally established by the Diocesan Synod of Mexico City in 1869 and a year later the first missionary bishop was consecrated in Canterbury Cathedral. The Anglican Church of Mexico today is a growing church in Mexico, with more than 70 active churches, keeping it as the third largest Protestant church in the country. Along with the churches, there are also many Anglican and ecumenical groups, including youth organisations, that bring the Church’s message to a wider audience.
