History:
The original Capilla del Cristo was built in 1521 by the Spanish Colonizers, who had just arrived in Puerto Rico. The chapel was used to serve as a place of rest for their soldiers and sailors. The original building was destroyed by the British in 1598 and the current structure was built in 1680.
