The building dates back to the 15th century and is dedicated to St. Ludmila, the grandmother of the patron saint of the Czech nation, St. Wenceslas. The basilica has undergone many renovations over the centuries, with the most notable being the reconstruction in the late 17th century. Today, it is among the most visited churches in Prague, with its interior having been recently redecorated with new marble, paintings and frescoes. History:

It is likely that the current Bazilika sv. Ludmily In Czechia was built on the site of an earlier church, for which the first documented records date back to 1388. From 1722 to 1732, under the leadership of architect Francesco Moratti, the building was extensively refurbished to its current Baroque exterior. Moratti gave the church its distinctive façade with a large central portico, framed by four columns, and a pair of large side façades. The interior of the building was decorated with the original marble, frescoes and woodwork. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Czechia.
