History:

Sambor Prei Kuk was originally inhabited by the pre-Angkorian civilization, who called the city "Ishanapura". The city is believed to have been established by the King Ishanavarman in 615 CE. Later on, the city was taken over by the Chenla Empire of the Khmer period, and a number of temples were constructed during this time.
