The name “Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Luz Baia” means “Church of Our Lady of Light of the Bay.” The church is an architectural symbol of the 19th-century colonial period and is a registered cultural heritage site. It was built in the Neo-Classical style and resembles the Portuguese churches of the same period. The interior of the church is simple, with an altar and a few benches. There are also murals of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ on the walls. The exterior features two towers and a bell tower. Today, the church is used for worship and serves as a cultural center for the community. It is also host to festivals, concerts, and traditional religious ceremonies.
