AD Tarrafal is a historic fort in the northern region of the island of Santiago in Cape Verde. It was part of the Forts of Santiago network, which was used by the Portuguese to defend the island from foreign attacks. The fort was built by order of King John IV of Portugal in 1643 and completed in 1644.
