Temple Wend Songda (Églises des Assemblées de Dieu) is a Protestant denomination in France that traces its linage to the Pentecostal movement originating in the United States in 1901. It currently has over 160 churches across France and is the largest evangelical church in France. The church is a member of the Evangelical Alliance of France and the National Council of Evangelicals of France. The denomination was established in 1936. Founded by U.S. missionaries, the Assemblies of God in France began in the region of Lorraine in 1937 under the leadership of Pastor E.J. Stamper. In 1967, the Assemblies of God ministries in France were officially united under the name Églises des Assemblées de Dieu. The term “Wend songda” represents the membership’s joint commitment to “go forth” in sharing of the gospel and the facts of Christianity. The Assemblies of God in France adhere to a belief in the divine inspiration and infallibility of Scripture, the deity of Jesus Christ, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the continuing work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer, and the belief of the Trinity. Unlike some other branches of Christianity, they emphasize the power of a personal relationship with Jesus. The denomination’s official doctrine includes a strong emphasis on evangelism and Christian ministry, as well as on worship that includes preaching, singing, and prayer. They are committed to social justice and take an active role in providing relief for the poor. The denomination also believes in education and supports a network of schools and colleges. In addition to its worship services, the Églises des Assemblées de Dieu also provide a wide range of other services, including conferences and workshops, retreats, counseling, and various types of support groups. The organization also runs music festivals and outreach programs, as well as conferences and seminars to help spread the gospel message.
