Botswana Young Women's Christian Association In Botswana: History,Facts, & Services
The Botswana Young Women's Christian Association (BYWCA) was founded in 1967 and is part of an influential and respected global network of organizations committed to upholding the rights of women and young people. BYWCA provides much-needed social services throughout Botswana, such as counseling and referrals, health education and legal education, as well as offering programs to enhance the personal development and empowerment of young women and girls in the country. Over the years, BYWCA has also advocated for, and worked towards, broader societal changes that would benefit all women and young people in Botswana, such as promoting gender equality and fighting against discrimination in all its forms. As part of its mission to equip and empower young women and girls, BYWCA runs a variety of projects focused on gender empowerment, HIV/AIDS awareness, youth employment, poverty alleviation, and the development of service delivery systems. Additionally, BYWCA works to build the capacity of individuals and institutions that are central to the development of young women, particularly those in rural areas.
