Tserkov' V Chest' Rozhdestva Ioanna Predtechi (The Church of the Birth of John the Forerunner) is an Eastern Orthodox church located in the village of Verkhnee Shestovo, near the city of Tula, Russia. It is a beautiful example of late-17th-century Russian church architecture and contains numerous frescoes and icons from the 16th and 17th centuries. The church is dedicated to John the Forerunner, the patron saint of the region. The church was built in 1685 and is an example of late-17th century Russian church architecture, which combined traditional Russian design elements with Baroque and Neoclassical features. It is a three-domed structure topped with 5 gables, and has a bell tower at its center. The exterior is decorated with sculptural elements in the form of carved stone crosses and metal church grills. Inside, the church is decorated with ornate frescoes and icons. The frescoes depict Biblical scenes, as well as various saints and scenes from the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus. The icons are primarily of John the Forerunner, Jesus Christ, the Saints and various feasts and religious holidays. The church also offers services to the local community, including religious education and charitable activities. In addition, the church hosts music and theater performances, religious festivals and memorial services.
