St. Gregory the Illuminator In Argentina: History,Facts, & Services

St. Gregory the Illuminator is the patron saint of Armenia and is recognized as the first official Christian Father of the Armenian Church. He is believed to have been born in 260 AD and died in 325 AD, although the exact dates of his birth and death are uncertain. He is known as the “Illuminator” because of his role in introducing the Christian faith to Armenia and his role in spreading and strengthening the faith in the country. According to legend, St. Gregory was imprisoned by the Armenian king Tiridates and was only released after converting Tiridates to Christianity. St. Gregory then went on to establish and spread the Christian faith in Armenia, eventually leading to its adoption as the state religion in 301 AD. St. Gregory also formulated the liturgy for the Armenian Church and wrote several works on Christian theology, which form the foundation of the Armenian Church’s principles, liturgy and beliefs. He is still revered in the Armenian Church for his role in unifying the Church and spreading the Christian faith throughout the country. The feast day of St. Gregory the Illuminator is celebrated on September 30th.
