Parroquia Santa Catalina de Siena was inspired by Pope John XXIII's call for the development of urban Christian communities. Father Alfredo Martinez, an advocate of social justice, founded the parish and was its first minister. In 1968, Father Marcos Quinones was appointed parish priest. Under his leadership, the parish grew and developed, becoming one of the most active and successful parishes in Puerto Rico.
