Sant Romà d'Aubinyà is thought to have been founded around the year 1200 by the Knights Templar, who recruited soldiers and donated land to the poor in the area. The village was named after Saint Ramon de Aubinyà, a soldier of the Knights Templar who was killed in 1220 in an unsuccessful attempt to liberate the town of Badalona from the Moors. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Andorra.
