History:

La Vella, the Plaça del Poble is a public space located between Carrer Prat de La Creu and Carrer Bonaventura Vinyes, at the centre of the old part of the city. It is one of the most important squares in town, as it has been used as a meeting point for locals since ancient times. The square dates back to the fourteenth century when, after seeding, it was known as Plaça Major, Plaça de la Cèrica (Market Square), or Plaça de la Llacuna (Hole Square, referring to its sunken shape). The original plan of the square was modified in different ways in the nineteenth century.
