History:

is a prominent Hindu pilgrimage temple situated in the picturesque Nallamalai hills situated on the banks of the River Krishna in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. This is one of the 12 Jyothirlingas, being one of the "Mukti Sthalas" where devotees make pilgrimage for surrendering their sins. As per an epigraphic record, the eastern gopuram (tower) of the temple was built in 1509 A.D by Srisimha Raya, a Vijayanagara ruler. Worship Method:

The Srisailam Temple worships in accordance with the Vaishnavism style of worship. Worship starts at 4 a.m. in the morning and continues till 8.30 p.m. in the night. The four Vedas, Upanishads, Geethas and Puranas form an integral part of the daily Prasada Pooja. The temple daily rituals include Suprabhatam, Nivedana, Kalasanthi Pooja and Utsava Pooja. As part of the Nivedana Pooja, Devotees offer milk and other dairy products. During Utsavam, ceremonies like Görrampaadu, Garuda Sevai and Nidra Tiruanjanam is performed. Special Poojas are conducted on festival days. The doors of the Srisailam Temple are open for worshippers every day and devotees are allowed to enter the temple in the morning.
