Visitors at the Gurudwara usually start their visit with paying their respect by offering a prayer in the lobby and then removing their shoes to enter the prayer hall. The services begin with kirtan, in which a group of devotees sing the holy songs of the Gurus in praise of God. This is followed by a recitation from Sri Guru Granth Sahib and is accompanied by musical instruments like the harmonium and tabla. The langar (communal meal) is served after the kirtan. The Sangat (congregation) finally congregates around the Guru Granth Sahib and bows in reverence. The Guru Granth Sahib is carried in a grand procession (parkash) around Guru Ka Lahore (the Swimming Pool of Guru Nanak Dev Ji) and a khanda (the Sikh symbol of victory) is waved. Following the parkash is the Shabad Kirtan (hymns from Guru Granth Sahib) and the Ardas (prayer of supplication). After the conclusion of the prayer, the visitors again pay their respect by offering salutations to the Guru Granth Sahib and the Panj Pyare (the five beloved ones).
