He was devoted to meditation and Sikh religion. He sacrificed himself at the age of nine to protect the honour of a poor Brahmin. In memory of Baba Atal Rai’s sacrifice, Gurudwara Shri Baba Atal Rai Sahib, has been established in the city of Ludhiana. A fair is organized every year on the day of his martyrdom (31st December).
