Gauri Shankar Temple in Mandi is one of the most important Hindu temples in Himachal Pradesh. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati and is known as the 'temple of snow'. Worship at Gauri Shankar Temple is conducted according to the Shaivism style of Hinduism. It follows the Sringara Pooja style of worship. During the daily worship at Gauri Shankar Temple, Vandana (offering of praise and thanks) is offered to the presiding deities in the form of hymns, prayers, and chanting of mantras. The Pujaris perform the Aarati, a ritual offering of light and incense. Offerings of rice and other foods are also made to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Prasad, or holy gifts, is distributed among the devotees. Flowers are offered to both deities to complete the puja. Even a coconut is offered as an offering which signifies abundance.
