The worship of the Bimakali Temple in Sarahan, Himachal Pradesh follows a unique form called Bharmaur. This is a continuation of the original Lamaistic Shan traditions of Chos-Khor, in which the goddess Bimakali is the central deity. She is the goddess of the local people, primarily the Bharmaur tribe, and is the protective deity of the area. Worship at this temple includes daily offering of the traditional chorten offerings including butter, woollens, liquor, offerings of fermented grains, and red-rice. Devotees also offer animal sacrifices, including porcupines and chickens. Offerings are made to the goddess either directly to her shrine or in the courtyard in front of her temple, with accompanying mantras and prayers. The temple is open daily for worshipers. On auspicious days special ceremonies are held that include traditional music, dance and chanting of mantras. During such ceremonies, devotees also offer traditional food to the deity.
