Horror Story of Bolkow Castle - Bolkow
Castle
Once upon a time, deep in the heart of Silesia, on the outskirts of a blighted and desolate forest, there stood a castle known as Bolkow Castle. Once a proud and imposing residence, it had been abandoned for centuries and was left to decay and rot away. In recent years, rumors began to surface that it was plagued with restless spirits from its past.
The poorest and most desperate villagers of the nearby towns refused to approach the castle, for they believed any visitors were cursed with bad luck. Even the faithful chose to look away and carry on with their lives in blessed ignorance.
But one day, a brave young man decided to brave the cursed castle and explore the dark ruins. As he made his way through the crumbling edifice, he could feel a presence staring at him from the shadows. Frightened by the sinister feeling, he nevertheless continued in spite of his fear.
Finally, after hours of exploration, he made it to a grand hall. But as he looked around the room, he noticed something off in the corner. In the shadows, a figure was lurking. As he took a step closer, the figure moved with far greater speed than any human should have. He could feel its icy stare as its eyes bore deep into his soul. The creature snarled and lunged at him.
Terrified, he ran out the castle with every ounce of his strength, never turning around to see what was chasing him. He managed to make it back home just as the sun was starting to peek above the horizon.
Ever since then, Bolkow Castle has been left alone, as if a silent agreement had been made that the castle had too many secrets, its inhabitants too powerful to be meddled with.
History & Information of Bolkow Castle - Bolkow
Bolków Castle, located near the town of Jawor in southwestern Poland, is one of the most important monuments of medieval architecture in Poland. Built in the mid-13th century, it is believed that the castle served as the seat of the Bolko family, one of the most powerful aristocratic families in Silesia at the time.
For about five hundred years, Bolków Castle was the seat of the Bolków family. Entrusted to Janko of Juncvogel, its first historic owner in 1253, the castle was transferred to Jakob von der Sch freeing its dependents in 1288. In 1454 it was bought by Count Jan V, Bolko I, the founder of the Piast dynasty. His son, also called Jan, succeeded him and defended the castle from Hussite attacks in 1429, Austrian-Regensburg in 1431 and the Teutonic Knights in 1460.
In 1645 the castle was captured by the Swedes, and extensively damaged. During the Great Northern War of 1700–1721, the castle was destroyed by Prussian and Austrian troops, and never completely rebuilt. Smaller restoration works were conducted in the 19th century, and since 1975 a more comprehensive conservation project has been underway with the aim of restoring Bolków Castle to its former glory.
The castle, surrounded by a man-made moat, consists of two lines of walls and overlooks a large park. It has an irregular layout, with six towers situated in each of its four corners as well as two smaller projecting towers. In the interior, the castle’s Gothic rooms are particularly impressive, while outside, the historical All Saints chapel is a standout feature. Today the castle is a popular tourist destination.
