It was a hot summer day in Jinja, Uganda. The sun blazed down on the small city, the heat rising off the pitted asphalt pavement. As the humidity filled the air with its heavy weight, a familiar and unpleasant scent wafted through the streets.
For generations, the people of Jinja have been living in the shadow of the infamous Nile Breweries. The breweries never seemed to close, and the smell of hops, beer, and something else churned out of its boiling vats and wafted through the streets.
People whispered stories of the strange occurrences within the walls of the brewery. Loud cries echoed from the alleyways, and strange figures would flit by in the dark. Locals said that sometimes animals would wander out of the brewery and in to the city, lost and disorientated.
The brave or foolish among the townspeople would venture into the brewery grounds late at night, hoping to catch a glimpse of what was going on inside. One evening, a young man did just that. He crept through the shadows of the brewery walls and stumbled upon a large vat. What he witnessed there chilled him to the core – a group of horrific creatures, gathering around the vat and drinking a thick, black liquid – Nile Beer.
