The hero was offered the castle as a reward for his bravery, and he gladly accepted, becoming the first lord of Castle Campbell. Castle Campbell (or Castle Gloom) is a monument of architecture located in Dollar Glen about three miles south of Dollar in the County of Stirling in Scotland. It was built in the 15th century by the Duke of Argyll, Archibald Campbell (or Campbell's 'Black Knight') and was named for him. The castle was a formidable stronghold and defended the strategic pass known as the 'Cheapside' between the Firth of the Forth and the Highland Line.
