Horror Story of Cally Palace Hotel
People had been murmuring about the old Cally Palace Hotel in the small town of Taylorville, Ohio, for years. Its grand, spooky facade had been featured in many a horror movie, but in reality, no one dared to even step foot inside.
The hotel had been abandoned for several decades, and it didn't seem like anyone knew why. Some people said that a horrible murder had taken place in the hotel, and the killer was still somewhere on the premises. Others said that a strange creature from the depths of hell was lurking in the hotel's basement.
Whatever the truth, the hotel had an eerily sinister aura about it. Rumors were abound that the old owner of the hotel, a now deceased millionaire named Victor Cally, had been interested in a more dark and macabre kind of entertainment. No one knew exactly what he was doing in the hotel, but one thing was for sure—it had something to do with the supernatural.
One night, a group of brave, yet extremely foolish teenagers decided to explore the old hotel. After only an hour, they all emerged in a terrified state, barely able to vocalize what they had seen. From what they could muster between sobs, one boy spoke of a creature with pale skin and razor sharp teeth. Another spoke of a dark figure that seemed to be wearing a robe.
To this day, no one knows exactly what lurks in the depths of the old Cally Palace Hotel. But locals will swear that on full moons, strange noises and lights can be seen emanating from the hotel's windows.
History & Information of Cally Palace Hotel
The Cally Palace Hotel is a former 18th century stately home situated near Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It is one of the finest examples of a 'Palladian' style mansion in Scotland. It was originally built in 1788 by William MacDowall, after he inherited the Cally estate from his father, Sir Alan MacDowall. The building, which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, was used as a hotel from the mid-19th century until it closed in 2020.
The hotel has had a number of notable visitors over the years, including the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, who spent two weeks there in August 1883. The following year, it hosted an engagement dinner for Princess Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria, to Prince Henry of Battenburg.
The hotel underwent a number of renovations and additions, including the installation of electric lighting in 1898. In 1903, a Palladian style porch and service wing were added to the north elevation, followed by a chalet to the south in 1909.
The Cally Palace Hotel has remained largely intact, with its original interiors, classical features and furnishings. The hotel was placed on the Buildings at Risk register in 2014 but has been restored to its former glory in recent years.
In 2020, the hotel was finally closed as it was no longer financially viable. The future of the estate is yet to be determined.
