The castle remained home to the stewards until 1639 when it was sold to Hans Heinrich von Planta. In 1979, it was purchased by Hans and Gertrud Schoch, who then undertook significant restoration work to the castle as well as to the surrounding gardens. Today, the castle is owned by the Schoch family and it is no longer open to the public. However, the grounds at Grynau Castle are open and there is an annual events programme which includes concerts and art exhibitions.
