In the centuries that followed, the castle was owned by various families, which included the Bishop of Lausanne, the Grand Council of Lausanne, and the Étiquette Family. Château de Chavornay was declared a national historic monument in 1991. It has a large, walled park, and the castle consists of a main building with several other buildings attached, which all compose a fine example of medieval fortifications. The castle also has a small chapel dedicated to Saint Pire. In 1979, the owners of Château de Chavornay opened the castle to the public as a museum, where visitors can explore the various rooms in the castle and view the collection of antique furniture, weapons, and art.
