Tubli Bay is located in northern Bahrain and is a wetland of international importance. It is one of the main locations included in the Bahrain Coastal Wetlands Ramsar Site, a designation for wetlands of international importance given by the Ramsar Convention. Tubli Bay was created in the 1960s when the Bahrain Oil Company reclaimed the area for an oil refinery and an industrial port. It is an artificial wetland, containing a salty lagoon, creeks and coral reefs. The area is rich in biodiversity, consisting of a variety of plant and animal species, including 34 fish, 6 crab and 5 mollusc species. It is also inhabited by a large number of migratory birds.In 2004 the area was listed as a Ramsar Site under Ramsar Convention.
