St. Peter's Anglican Church is a historic church building located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The building was constructed between 1883 and 1886. It was designed in the High Victorian Gothic style of stained glass and crafted wood, which was a popular choice of Victorian-era architects.
The cornerstone was laid on September 29, 1883, by Governor Sir William Des Vœux, who served from 1876 to 1885. It was opened for worship on August 29, 1886.
The most remarkable feature of the church is its spire, consisting of a copper-clad, Victorian-style tower and spire, reaching a height of 100 feet (30 m). The base of the tower is cruciform with flying buttresses connecting the upper parts of the tower to the church walls. The spire was in use for about 30 years until 1925, when it was removed due to structural instability caused by the heavy clay soil composition.
