Rosslyn Chapel, more properly known as the Collegiate Chapel of St. Matthew, is located in the village of Roslin, Midlothian, Scotland, and is one of the best-known and most visited medieval churches in Scotland. Established in the mid 15th century, the chapel is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument and is owned and managed by the Rosslyn Chapel Trust, whose members include the several hereditary Lords of Roslin.

The chapel is perhaps most renowned for its intricate stone carvings, of which there are over 150, and for its apparent connections to the Knights Templar, Freemasonry and the mystical tradition of the Holy Grail. The Assembly of the Guardians, a Masonic lodge, has met in the chapel regularly since the mid-18th century, and the chapel features heavily in current speculations regarding the Priory of Sion.

The chapel is built in an unusually distinctive ‘Y’ shaped pattern, reflecting the shape of the hill of Rosslyn itself, and is made of sandstone from a quarry in nearby Roslin Glen. Most of the stone carvings are found both inside and outside the chapel and consist of a variety of religious and secular figures, including animals, plants and musicians.
