In Alatskivi, a small town of Estonia, there lies the Alatskivi Castle Park, a place of beauty and peace. For centuries, it has been local attraction for visitors, passing through and tourists alike.

It was said to be the spirit of Margareta, a young noblewoman of the area, who made a terrible mistake one evening. She had been about to marry a dishonorable suitor, one whom her family had forbidden her from even speaking to, in order to secure more power and money for the family.

That night, in a moment of despair, she took her own life, throwing herself off the tallest tower of the castle.

Ever since, her ghost was said to wander the grounds of the Alatskivi, looking for any unfortunate passerby to join her in her afterlife. People have reported seeing her wailing in despair, and even hearing her calling out in attempt to seek attention.

Alatskivi Castle Park is located in Alatskivi, Estonia and has been an important site of Estonian history for centuries.

The Alatskivi castle was built as a manor house in the 15th century. The castle was first mentioned in written records in 1584 and was owned by the prominent von der Pahlen families. Over the centuries, the castle was owned and occupied by a variety of different people including the Tsar of Russia, Karl Eenpalu, Carl Robert Jakobson, and Hugo Treffner. The current castle buildings were built in the Neo-Renaissance style in the late 19th century.

In 1940, the castle was seized by the Soviet Union and its occupants were forced to leave the property. During the Soviet occupation, the castle was used as a school and a museum. After 1991, the castle and the surrounding parkland were restored and opened to the public.

Today, Alatskivi Castle Park is a popular tourist destination and a symbol of Estonian history.
