Synopsis: According to the latest news from Kashmir, Sonmarg, Karnah, and Gurez will remain open to tourists this winter after a long break of 7 decades. This will be a strong move from the side of the Kashmir government to boost tourism in the state.Â
Unquestionably, Kashmir is one of the most well-known tourist destinations in India to spend summer vacations. It remains on the bucket lists of almost everyone who travels. Millions of tourists arrive in Kashmir in winter to witness the snowfall and ice-covered mountains, as it is the best time to visit Kashmir. but are unable to visit some popular tourist places in Kashmir like Karnah, Sonmarg, and Gurez due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility. Winter is the only time when the valleys in Kashmir remain covered with a thick sheet of snow, thereby making things difficult for tourists.
However, the Kashmir government is planning to introduce adventure sports and other activities in those places from this year onwards. This step will not only increase the tourist footfall in those areas but also improve the tourist experience.
Travelers often miss out on seeing popular destinations like Karnah, Sonmarg, and Gurez because of poor weather conditions. After being closed during the winter for the past 70 years, all three locations will now be open year-round to attract more visitors to the area.
Reports say that for the first time in 70 years, the Kashmir government wants to put money into building ski slopes in remote, snow-sure areas with good transportation connections.
Gulmarg is a popular hill station not only in Kashmir but in India as a whole, but this town sees fewer visitors than usual. Doodhpathri in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, on the other hand, has recently been reported to join the list, and both locations are accessible via road.
Other reports say that tourist places in Jammu and Kashmir that remain covered with snow in winter will likely get helicopter services to make it easier to get around. The most popular time for tourists to travel there used to be in the summer, but recent advancements will allow visitors to access Jammu and Kashmir year-round.
If you’re a tourist who’d prefer to visit Gurez when it isn’t covered in snow, the best time to go is between June and September, when the city is rarely covered in ice or snow and you can enjoy a scenic Kashmir trip.
